Female Hair Thinning/ Loss? Try A Scalp Massage

Female hair loss has become more prevalent, not to mention distressing, in women today. Now known as Female Pattern Baldness this condition has become a real problem for many women. Hair can begin thinning and falling out due to many different factors. Some of these factors can be controlled or lessened and some may need medical treatment.

Having a genetic predisposition to hair loss is probably the one factor that you really can't do anything about. If female hair loss runs in the family you will probably be no exception. The question then is do you really just have to learn to live with it? The answer is, no you don't.

Another factor is increased stress. Prolonged stressful situations can affect your body in many ways and if you are losing your hair you may want to find ways to reduce the stressful situations in your life. Learn how to meditate and take a yoga class. Go on a women's retreat. Anything to lessen the stress in your life.

Menopause is a biggie, too. Hormonal fluctuations can send your body reeling and even though you will want to pull your hair out, you may not have to if menopause has anything to say about it. Not only will you have hot flashes, nausea, and mood swings, your hair may fall out, too. Life is just not fair.

Having an uncontrolled low thyroid can be a contributing factor to losing your hair, too. Low thyroid, or hypothyroidism, can be easily detected with a blood test and controlled with medication prescribed by your doctor. Talk to your doctor about hair loss and other symptoms you may be having like fatigue and weight gain, so they can rule out other illnesses.

Hair loss can be distressing for anyone but when a woman starts to lose her hair she may be absolutely devastated. Some men who lose their hair can just shave their heads and that will be that. A woman can't shave her head and if she loses her hair she may feel like she would be ostracized or ridiculed. A woman is just not supposed to go bald.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to prevent the loss of hair before it even starts. If you smoke cigarettes, quit. Keep alcohol consumption to a minimum. There are natural supplements you can take, like saw palmetto, that actually promote hair growth.

Get regular scalp massages. There are essential oils available that when massaged into the scalp will prevent or slow hair loss and may even promote hair growth by stimulating the scalp.

Eating a diet rich in vitamins and minerals like the B vitamins, iron, and zinc will prevent deficiencies and therefore, prevent hair loss. Sulfur found in onions and garlic can help prevent hair loss also. Vitamins A and C help strengthen the hair you have and keep your scalp healthy.

If you suspect you may be beginning to lose your hair, first talk to your doctor or contact your local trichologist or hair loss specialist and find ways to prevent and treat female hair loss.
